1 Managing modules

Bibles, dictionaries, commentaries and other books are modules. The app downloads them from module repositories (CrossWire by default) and keeps them on the phone, so reading needs no connection.

First start

With no Bible installed, the app opens on the starter page: pick your language, and a starter set (a Bible, Strong's dictionaries, cross-references) is ticked for you, each with its licence and size. One tap downloads the set; the Bible opens when it is done. Removing your last Bible brings this page back.

Opening the module manager

In the reading view, tap ⋮ in the footer, then Modules.

The module list

Each row shows the module's name, its description, its language, version and download size. Installed modules have a ✓ and a Remove button; the others have Install.

Finding a module

  • Search matches the name and the description: "strong" finds every module with Strong's numbers.
  • The language list under it narrows the list to one language.

Searching for "strong" Choosing a language

Some rows are greyed out with a reason, for example a module that needs an unlock key, which the app cannot take yet.

Installing and removing

Tap Install. The row shows the download's progress and can be cancelled. If the app is closed or the phone switches off, the download carries on from where it was when you open the app again.

If the connection drops, the download tries again for a while, then shows the error with Retry. Without a connection, the lists from the last time are shown and Install is greyed out.

Remove asks first; you can download the module again later.

Removing a module

Refresh and Import

The ⋮ at the bottom right of the Modules page has Refresh, which loads the repositories' lists again, and Import, see Importing modules.

Choosing repositories

In Settings (⋮ in the reading view's footer), Module repositories sets where the module manager looks: CrossWire, CrossWire Beta, CrossWire Attic and eBible.org. At least one stays on.
